I was recently out with friends and start talking to a woman I met, who asked what I like to do for fun… I didn’t have an answer ready and I don’t think "working on content for websites" and "playing with the laser cutter" are very compelling to a woman looking to date.
In the past few weeks I was also talking to a few friends about online dating. This mobile app has been one of the most intriguing I’ve seen… Tinder uses your GPS to find other women within a range you set who are also using the app. Then, using your Facebook profile, shows you things in common. If you ‘like’ a profile and they have previously ‘liked’ your profile, you get a “match” notice, then you’re able to send a message to the other user. It’s pretty simple and interesting.
There was some concern about this being a ‘hook-up’/meet-for-sex app, but I’d say that’s not the case. As I’ve flipped through the profiles, reading the ‘mini-profiles’ and looking at the photos the women have uploaded, it really does look focused on relationships. I’m sure just like eHarmony and PlentyOfFish, there are people just cruising for sex, but this doesn’t look like that so far.
