When TRON hit the movie theaters in 1982, one of the cool things was how the TRON suits lit up. Back then, they made that effect by painstakingly layering film and making different exposures with 
several other processes. Compared to today’s standards, no really ‘good’ (easy) way to do digital effects back then.
Today there is “electroluminescence wire” (EL wire for short) that runs off 3 AAA batteries. It’s sometimes also called “cool neon” – cool as is in heat… but it IS cool as in RADICAL!. People have done some REALLY fun stuff with it, like outline their messenger bag/purse, light up their bikes or helmets and I can only imagine what could be done with cars! :)
