Tiger Pit Fitness and the Old Dollar General

Tiger Pit Fitness and the Old Dollar General | Dave Tavres

Tiger Pit Fitness, right on Main Street USA, is currently limited by space and building capacity. The old Dollar General building on East Howell has been vacant since early 2022, and would be an ideal place for Tiger Pit to relocate to, for general space and expansion. The old Dollar General building is about 11,000 sq. ft. of space, with lots of parking, and was built in 1975. It has a concrete foundation, so it could easily support the heavy fitness equipment. Plus, if Tiger Pit was to move there, they could expand to aerobics and other classes, add proper showers and changing rooms, and probably many more great ideas to make it a fantastic local gym.

Of course, the first step is for Tiger Pit to purchase the property from the current owner. And of course, it would require renovating and repurposing the 11,000 sq. ft. space. The larger space would allow for increased membership capacity, and a better overall customer experience. While the building is very close to the train tracks, that shouldn’t be an issue for people working out, as it would be with other businesses. (If you were ever in Dollar General when trains went by, you knew it!)

(I DID put together a business plan to see if it could be an indoor miniature golf course, but the cost for heating and cooling a recreation like that, combined with our limited population just didn’t work, no matter how I sliced the numbers. Too bad, it would have been a lot of fun!)
